Real Refreshment

The day is hot, the humidity is high, the competition is intense and the game has been a nail-biter.  Back and forth the score bounces.  You give it all your effort.  You run, you push, you strain in the heat of the afternoon sun.  Your muscles ache, your body is drenched with sweat, the exertion has been good.  The victory is sweet.

The game won, your teammates sink to the ground under the shade of a tree, One of them reaches into the cooler for a cold drink.  The chilled can is enticing.  The ice falls to the ground.  The lid popping promises relief.  The satisfied sigh indicates that the thirst has been quenched.

As you look on expectantly, the refreshed teammate seems to remember you standing there.  With a grin, he opens the cooler to get one for you.  As you reach out your hand in anticipation, you’re suprised when you don’t feel the weight of an icy can, instead you’re handed an 8 x 10 photo.  The picture is enticing:  the drink portrayed drips with condensation, the label promises cool relief, the caption under the image guarantees refreshment but in the afternoon heat the picture simply doesn’t deliver what it promises.  Its not the real thing.

The truth is, many people feel the same way about religion . . . that it promises more than it delivers.  At CrossRoad Church, we believe that just the opposite is true.  God actually wants to give us more than we could ever ask or imagine.

That is why God provides so much more than empty promises. He demonstrates it to us most clearly in the very real person Jesus, but he doesn’t stop there.  Instead, he connects the promises of his Word to real, physical, hands-on things.  At CrossRoad Church we want to experience and explore the love of God for us in all the ways he shows them.  And we want to invite you to join us  experiencing that love to as we journey through life “on the CrossRoad.”
